Oxfordshire battled back superbly for a share of the spoils as their run of 11 consecutive Kaliber Inter Counties League victories came to an end with an 18-18 draw at Division 3 rivals Gwynedd.

At one stage it looked like Oxon, who lifted the Division 4 crown last year after winning all nine league games, would lose out as they trailed 15-9 going into the men's A clash.

However, man of the match Ade Larner (30.81av), ably assisted by Nick Cobb (29.47), Roger Haines (28.36) and Pete Hall (28.36) helped the side fight back to level, winning nine of the remaining games, with a team average of 25.01.

They also picked up a bonus point to keep them joint second in the table.

Earlier, Oxfordshire got off to a bad start with the ladies B team losing 4-2 against their Welsh hosts. Nicola Curzon was the pick of the ladies B team with an average of 16.62.

The men's B team then reduced the arrears as they battled to a 6-6 draw. Barry Stratford (25.64) picked up his second successive man-of-the-match award, closely followed by Terry Wood (25.05).

Trailing 10-8 going into Sunday's session, it got worse for Oxfordshire when the ladies A team crashed to a 5-1 defeat. They were not helped by missing a number of crucial doubles. Paulette Guy (17.84) took the lady-of-the-match award.

Then it was left to the heroics of the men's A team to seal the comeback.
