Two men have been arrested after one was shot in the head four times last night in Oxford.

The 22-year-old was also shot in the chest and hand with an air rifle, following an argument, police spokesman Vicky Evans said.

Paramedics treated the injured man and a 21-year-old in the car park of McDonalds in Botley Road, at about 11.30pm.

They were both taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington for treatment for minor injuries. Thames Valley Police's armed response unit attended and a gun was recovered, added Miss Evans.

An ambulance service spokesman said the 22-year-old had been shot in the head, as well as in the chest and the hand.

"The man was still conscious when we arrived," the spokesman added. Miss Evans said a 21-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and a 22-year-old was later arrested on suspicion of assault. They were being held by police this morning.

David Young, of McDonalds, said the restaurant had shut at 9pm, but cleaners were working at 11.30pm.

Mr Young said none of them had been aware of the shooting, but had seen an armed police officer in the car park shortly afterwards.
