Whoops of joy and a massive sigh of relief greeted television presenter Wesley Smith when he handed over a £50,000 cheque to a Brightwell-cum-Sotwell pre- school.

The money means the Allsorts Pre-school can now have a new home at the village school.

Its present home, a portable cabin, has been condemned and the group has been trying to raise £100,000 for a replacement.

The £50,000 added to the money already raised means it can get on with the job.

Chairman Lydia Cook said: "This is a dream come true for us. It secures our future."

She was there with helpers and children when Wesley Smith arrived with the cheque.

It was so warm in the building the cameras -- and Wesley's glasses -- steamed up.

Committee member Hilary Smith said: "We have had wonderful support from people in Brightwell and in Wallingford.

"The money went to the project which gained the most 'phoned-in votes so we want to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for us."

The £50,000 comes from the People's Millions, a fund set up to mark ITV's 50th anniversary.

Viewers of Central News were asked which project they wanted to support and Allsorts Pre-school's televised plea attracted the most support from the 4,131 people who voted by phone and text.
