Oxford City member David Summers hailed his BB&O Boddington Trophy victory as the best of his career.

And his triumph at Mentmore came in a week that saw him pick up three other titles at his club.

Summers, 27, lifted the Boddington Trophy at Mentmore after a two-shot victory over Beaconsfield's Michael Sanders.

Rounds of 70 and 73 secured him the top spot after finishing third last year, but he admitted he thought he had blown his chances.

"It was the best victory I've had. I've won the county foursomes before, but this was my first county singles," he said.

"I've been playing pretty well this year. I've been hitting the ball a lot better and I've been working on my swing, which has paid off."

Although Summers led after round one, he was never fully confident of winning.

Indeed at one stage Nick Woodage (Newbury & Crookham) was four shots clear, but slumped after a series of out of bounds shots.

Summers said: "I didn't think I had done enough. I was chasing it on the last few holes, but missed a few puts.

"I made a birdie on the 17th, but I missed a six-footer for birdie on the last.

"Of course you never know how everyone else is doing."

The Boddington Trophy is open to anyone over 25 with a handicap of seven of less.

Oxford City also had ninth spot with Larry Holder and 19th with David's father John, while John Cox (Tadmarton Heath) and Mark Stokes (Magnolia Park) came 16th and 17th respectively.

Summers also won Oxford City's President's Cup, the club's main knock-out competition, defeating Kevin Henwood in the final to repeat his 2002 success.

He completed his quadruple by claiming foursomes trophies, the Webber Cups with Ian Bound, and the Wilkins Cups with his wife Martine.

"It was a pretty good week," Summers concluded.
