OXFORD United's top scorer Joey Beauchamp is being eyed by Premiership strugglers Bolton, writes JON MURRAY.

Reports in a national paper today claim Bolton boss Colin Todd has asked Oxford about £1.5m-rated Beauchamp, who has hit 15 goals this season.

The report suggests United do not want to sell but could be tempted once they have avoided any threat of relegation.

However, it's doubtful whether Beauchamp, who is 27 this Friday, would fancy a move so far away.

Although he still harbours a desire to play in the Premier League, the winger had a brief and unhappy spell at West Ham three years ago when he found the travelling from Oxford too much. NICKY Banger confirmed his return to fitness with an excellent performance as United Reserves slipped to a 2-1 defeat against QPR Res in the Avon Insurance Combination Match at the Manor last night.

Banger made no mistake from an opening, set up by Simon Weatherstone, to put United ahead after 20 minutes.

The former Southampton striker had another brilliant solo effort disallowed 13 minutes later

United's lack of height was exploited at set-pieces and

Steve Slade equalised after 72 minutes from a corner and 10 minutes from the end Brian Wilsterman's only error was punished by Matthew Brazier.

Wilsterman kicked a clearance against the striker who was left with the easiest of chances from close in.

Oxford Team: Jackson, Remy, Lewis, Wright, Wilsterman, Rose, Folland, Murphy, Banger, Weatherstone, Richards (Davies 75 mins). Subs: Shepherd and Bennett not used. Referee: M Ebage (High Wycombe). Attendance: 191.
