CHRISTMAS comes just once a year - or so most drinkers thought until they walked into a pub in Oxford last night.

Regulars of The Crown in Cornmarket got into festive spirit without the hassle of buying presents, burning the turkey or putting up with argumentative relatives.

The pub was decorated with a Christmas tree and the usual trimmings, a Christmas CD was playing, the staff all wore Christmas hats and everyone had crackers with free nibbles and mince pies.

There was even a piece of plastic mistletoe for a bit of drunken kissing and everyone was welcomed in with a cheery 'Merry Christmas'.

The crackpot theme night idea came from manager George McPhillips.

He said there were no complaints from the regulars who were pleased that everyone in the pub was laughing and smiling.
