MUM Serena Davis has given birth to a girl, finally breaking the spell where previously all the babies conceived in her street were boys.

The 34-year-old, who lives in Willowbrook, Stanton Harcourt, was dying to know whether or not she would put an end to the peculiar pattern, because until she broke the spell, not a single woman had conceived a little girl while living in the 11-house close.

But all her neighbours were certain Serena would bring another little lad into Willowbrook.

Serena, who lives with partner Kevin Glister, said: "There are three girls living here but none of them were conceived or born while their parents were living in the close.

"All eight boys who live here are under five-years-old and we all thought there was something in the water because it is rather strange." On top of lifting the spell, baby Phoebe has broken another record - she's the first girl to be born into the Glister family since her great aunt Sandy was born 50 years ago. Serena, a business manager at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, already has a five-year-old boy called George.

Before she gave birth she told the Oxford Mail: "I'm tiny and I'm carrying around a great big bump. I have high blood pressure because the baby is so big. "I think it is really strange that all babies conceived here are boys. "I'm sure we're going to end up with a football team sooner or later!" But she surprised everyone by giving birth to a beautiful 8lb 8oz girl called Phoebe Lunar. George gave Phoebe her unusual middle name!

"I was booked in for a Caesarean on the Wednesday but my waters broke the Thursday before when I was at home. Everyone in the neighbourhood was so shocked because they all thought I was going to have another boy.

"I can't believe George came out with the name Lunar. He is only young and I have just looked up the meaning in a book. It comes from the Greek goddess of light and lunar means shining moon.

"I'm really chuffed it's a girl and she'll be spoilt for choice with all the boys here. Kevin is absolutely delighted. We couldn't decide on a name for her and then came up with Phoebe.

"But now I have to go out and buy lots of girls clothes!"

Kevin, a general manager for a car company, was adament his second child would be another addition to the growing number of boys. He said: "Serena's waters broke while we were all having tea! We were all very surprised when she gave birth to Phoebe."
