A FIRE at Berinsfield Primary School is being treated as suspected arson.
The entrance hall and part of the roof went up in flames and fire crews battled to stop the whole school in Wimblestraw Road from burning down early yesterday evening.
The alarm was raised by passers-by. Station officer Geoffrey Smith said: "We saved the vast majority of the school. If it had happened at a different time of day or night we would be talking very differently now."
He said police were treating the blaze as suspected arson.
