AN OXFORDSHIRE woman is lucky to be alive after her glider clipped a house and smashed into a tree.

The 35-year-old pilot, who comes from Thame, suffered a fractured pelvis in the accident which happened in the Booker area of High Wycombe.

It is believed the single-seater glider was coming in to land at Booker Airfield yesterday afternoon when it hit the roof of the house before hitting the tree.

The female occupant of the house was not hurt and phoned the emergency services.

A spokesman for Two Counties Ambulance NHS Trust, which dealt with the accident, said the pilot had been trapped in the glider by her legs.

"She's got quite a serious fracture but she's lucky to come out of it relatively unscathed."

Police and the Civil Aviation Authority have begun an investigation into the cause of the accident. The woman was in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
