GRESHAM Cheetahs wait on grand prix star Jason Crump as they prepare to do battle at Wimborne Road against Poole Pirates in tonight's Elite League speedway clash.

The Oxford No 1, who has been in sensational form so far this year, went down with a flu bug on Saturday and missed Cheetahs heavy defeat at Swindon.

Unlike most people he has been unable to take any medicine because of the obvious repercussions with drugs in the sport, just having to do with herbal remedies.

However, there was better news yesterday when Crump's spokesman Phil Lanning said: "If he continues to progress like he has for the past 24 hours, he could make it to Poole."

If he doesn't make it, Oxford's adopted son Ronnie Correy will again be standing by. He has already guested twice this season and with some success.

It will also be an important meeting for Paul Hurry and Lawrence Hare, being their final preparation for Sunday's big day at the British Final at Coventry. Steve Johnston will be aiming to make it three good meetings on the trot following his paid 17 on Friday and paid 13 on Sunday.

The south coast outfit include former Cheetahs Marvyn Cox, Craig Boyce and Mark Lemon, though Lemon is unfit.

Poole: Boyle, Sullivan, Gunnestad, Cox, A N Other, Zetterstrom.

Oxford: Crump or Correy, Staechmann, Johnston, Hurry, Schofield, Hare.
