KEVIN Brock, who was sacked as manager of Oxford City at the end of last season, has signed to play for ambitious Banbury United in the Hellenic League.

The 35-year-old midfielder, who was a member of Oxford United's 1986 Milk Cup-winning team, is one of a host of summer signings made by Banbury's new boss Phil Lines.

He has also snapped up much-travelled striker Steve Jenkins from Oxford City and has returned to his old club Brackley to sign midfield trio Terry Muckelberg, Darren Watts and Darren Reynolds and full back Karlton Stratford, as well as former Thame midfielder Kelly Lonergan.

Lines, who has also captured promising youngsters Danny Carter and Rhydian Purnell from Easington Sports, was especially pleased to have Brock on board.

"It is an outstanding signing for Banbury," he said. "He will sit in the middle of midfield. He obviously can't tear about, but we just need his passing ability to link everything up."

Lines, who stressed that Banbury weren't splashing out a lot of money, was also pleased to have captured Jenkins.

"I don't think there is a better target man in the county, and he is another outstanding signing for us," said Banbury's boss.

"He is a well-known character and a good centre forward, and at that level - if he looks after himself - he should do well."

Lines added that Muckelberg - Brackley's player of the year last season - would be appointed club captain.
