Radio presenter Sue McGarry was yesterday remembered as "the girl with the smile in her voice".

Relatives, friends and colleagues crowded into Blessed Dominic Barberi Church in Littlemore for the Thames Valley FM presenter's funeral.

Sue, 35, was found dead at her home near Witney, which she shared with fiance Danny Cox, a disc jockey for Fox FM.

Before her death she had been receiving treatment for depression but had appeared to be recovering in the days leading up to the tragedy.

The coffin was carried into the church decorated with lilies and other white flowers. During the requiem mass, led by Fr Pat Armstrong, her former colleague and friend Julian Worricker - who worked with Sue on Radio Five Live and Radio Leicester - paid tribute.

He said: "Wherever she worked, Sue was a hit with listeners. That was because she did not try to be anybody other than herself. She never judged. She treated everyone as an equal."

He told the congregation about messages which had appeared on the Internet since Sue's death - one of which described her as "the girl with the smile in her voice".

Mr Worricker recalled Sue's sense of humour and her love of gossip, saying: "It was not unusual for her to call me at 6.31pm, if the Brookside Omnibus edition had been particularly interesting. "If you were at a dull party and you knew Sue was coming, you'd stay in the knowledge things would improve."

In addition to her consumer journalism slot on Thames Valley FM, Sue had presented a show as a disc jockey on Radio Two as well as programmes on Radio Five Live and Radio Four.
