A young woman was sexually assaulted while walking across a town common, writes David Horne.

And detectives are linking the Witney attack with other incidents of indecent exposure in front of young girls.

Police are now appealing to the public with a photofit to get information to catch the pervert.

And they have also warned women and girls to be extra vigilant about walking across the town's Langel Common in the dark. Det Sgt Simon Morton, of Witney CID, said: "We are very concerned about these incidents and Langel Common has been a focus of our investigations. It is not clear at this stage whether the same man is responsible in all cases.

"None of the girls or the woman has been physically harmed but they were all shocked and scared by these deplorable offences." The 19-year-old woman was walking on a footpath across the common, which links the town centre with the Cogges estate, when she was grabbed and attacked.

The teenager lashed out, managing to get free and run off to phone the police.

She described the man as having staring eyes and a round face. He was between 30 and 40, and wore a woolly hat, a thin dark cotton jacket and dark tracksuit bottoms.
