Oxford University teachers have been urged to strike over pay.
Teachers have been asked not to work tomorrow (Tuesday May 25) although no official rally in Oxford has been organised by the Association of University Teachers.
The one-day strike throughout universities in the UK will protest at the 3.5 per cent pay increase offer made to academic staff last month.
A total of 58 per cent of members voted to strike in a ballot on May 12.
Dr Kit Bailey, IT support teacher at Oxford University, said: "Feeling is quite strong about the pay issue, but most lecturers and researchers are probably more concerned about their students and their work than they are about themselves so they find it difficult to withdraw their labour. "So we are leaving it up to the individuals whether they want to take strike action or not. We are not picketing the University in any way because it is not their fault it the Government's."
Rallies will be held in Aberdeen, Belfast, Cardiff, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham, Southampton, Stirling and Swansea. Further action is planned for June and August.
