Animal rights activist Cynthia O'Neill has marked up the 50,000th signature for a petition against vivisection.

But although the main target of her fight - Hillgrove Farm at Minster Lovell - has closed down, she is to carry on collecting further names in an ongoing battle to abolish experiments on animals.

The Milton-under-Wychwood campaigner started the petition in 1992 when she set up the Active Campaign to Abolish Vivisection.

She has gathered support from all over the county, and even signatures from abroad. "Even though Hillgrove has been finally closed down, the campaign goes on," she said.

Mrs O'Neill played a leading role in the campaign against farmer Chris Brown's business at Minster Lovell, where cats were bred for research.

He shut the farm last month - but denied the protests had played a part in his decision.
