Chipping Norton, who spent much of the season fighting against relegation, ended with some silverware as they beat Littlemore 21-11 in the final of the county's consolation competition at Gosford All Blacks' new Stratfield Brake ground.

Chippy provided a rousing farewell for their long-serving full back Mark Clarke in his last first-team game.

Despite knowing the strength of Littlemore's pack, Chippy allowed themselves to get drawn into an initial half hour of forward attrition with Littlemore benefiting from two well-taken penalties.

Chippy, whose pack had an unusual look to it with Adam Smith exchanging the No 10 shirt for the hooker's position, eventually began to exert some territorial pressure which produced a try from No 8 Mark Dixon, who scored after two quickly-taken tap penalties. Stand-off Ian Morgan, who had a faultless afternoon, slotted the conversion to make it 7-6 at half-time.

In the second half with the wind behind them, the Chippy backs began to show their paces with some great incursions from wings Jon Hickman and Martin Nutt, who burst through to score in the corner after some good handling from the backline.

After that, Morgan's accurate kicking kept Littlemore pinned in their own half, resulting in nine more points from the boot of the Chippy stand-off which effectively put the game beyond Littlemore's reach.

Littlemore went over for a deserved late consolation try after some sustained forward pressure near the line.
