High-octane Scots Idlewild continue upwards and onwards with their new album 100 Broken Windows which has earned them unwelcome comparisons with Travis.

Idlewild's frontman Roddy Woomble sighs as he agrees: "Some of the Scottish journalists have been describing us as the 'New Travis', which we're not.

"I'm not criticising Travis, they're good at what they do," he adds. "But we appeal to a different audience."

Already renowned for their raw live performances and guitar-driven noisy power pop, Idlewild's new album sees the band venture into new dimensions.

"It's not as instant as our older stuff," says Roddy. "It's not just a blast of noise. It was more satisfying to make. It's a bit of a contrast to our first album, Hope Is Important. "We view 100 Broken Windows as a grower. It displays more awareness and more substance. We took a wee while to decide on which way we were going to head with this album but it's already sold more copies than the last album and it's only been out a few weeks."

Idlewild are currently mid-way through a UK tour, after which they head off to mainland Europe where they are teaming up with Muse.

"They're absolutely huge in Europe, that particular tour is in venues with a capacity of 3,000 plus," informs Roddy.

Idlewild headline at The Zodiac on Saturday. "Oxford is a place we always enjoy playing," Roddy adds.

Sadly, it probably won't be long before Idlewild outgrow every available venue in Oxford!
