A teenage football fan has been banned from football matches for a year after admitting using threatening behaviour after a derby match.

Emmett McGovern, of Lytton Road, Cowley, Oxford, was drinking in the Britannia pub in Headington when trouble flared after United lost a game against rivals Reading.

Up to 30 United fans crowded into the pub and began to throw bottles, glasses and even a barstool around the bar and through the windows.

Police in riot gear surrounded the pub and moved into break up the disturbance.

Although not involved in the violence itself, McGovern threatened one of the police officers and made angry gestures after another man was thrown out of the bar.

Seven other Oxford United fans appeared in court charged with violent disorder after the same game. They were: Simon Hill, 39, of Whitworth Road, Selhurst, London; Stephen Dillon, 31, of Warburg Crescent, Blackbird Leys; Felix Brown, 30, of Balfour Road, Blackbird Leys; Steven Salter, 35, of Lambourne Avenue, Aylesbury; Adrian Dyer, 19, of Field Avenue, Blackbird Leys, Oxford; Geoffrey Hoare, 29, of School Road, Finstock; and Stuart Mechen, 30, of Walton Street, Oxford.
