Villagers are still in the dark about how much they will have to pay to go on to mains sewerage.

And they are angry that a special meeting called by Thames Water has not given them enough information on which to make a decision.

Milton Common has been waiting and campaigning for more than 30 years to get on to the mains.

And now they have until July to find out for themselves what the costs will be. If talks break down the scheme will collapse.

During the meeting at the Three Pigeons, Thames Water said the scheme would involve a sewer going down the middle of the A40. This would be paid for with 100,000 from South Oxfordshire District Council, 106,000 in grants and 700,000 from Thames Water. But the residents will have to find 100,000 between them plus the costs of connecting their homes to the sewer itself.

Brian Trafford, of Old London Road said: "I have no idea what it might cost, except that it will be a lot. This all takes some hard thinking about."
