Henley rounded off the season in exhilarating style and so nearly produced a shock result over Allied Dunbar Premiership 2 champions Rotherham at Dry Leas on Saturday.
In front of their largest crowd of the season, Henley led 24-18 with ten minutes to go, but a late try by outstanding scrum half Dave Scully and conversion by Mike Umaga earned the Yorkshireman a dramatic victory. Gaining numerous turnovers, Henley came from 10-0 down to lead 15-10 at half-time with tries from scrum half Ben Ayres and full back Tim Barlow, plus a conversion and penalty by fly half Matt Jones.
Rotherham levelled with a try, but two penalties by Jon Stebbings, who had replaced the injured Jones, restored Henley's advantage before Rotherham's late revival.
So Henley finish their first season at this level in ninth place.
