THE 250,000th Peugeot 206 has rolled off the Ryton production line in Coventry just 18 months after its UK launch, writes David Duffy.

All versions of the 206 are built at Ryton including the glass-topped Roland Garros model which is unique to the factory. Ryton is the only car factory in Europe working a seven day week on a three shift basis. Production now stands at 4000 cars per week with more than 60 per cent of UK production being exported to both right and left-hand-drive markets.

The success of the 206 is due in part to its universal appeal. As well as being in the top three selling models in the UK in March and achieving the highest market share to date by a Peugeot model, it is the best selling small hatchback in Belgium and Holland and number two in France and Spain.

A new version of the Peugeot 206, a Coupe Cabriolet model will be launched at the British International Motor Show in October.
