Oxford City boss Paul Lee has hit out over Thame United's offer of compensation for the registration of wing back Chris Potter.
The 21-year-old prospect has signed for Thame on a free transfer, but City hold his registration and are entitled to compensation from their Ryman League Division 1 rivals.
Lee said Thame had made an offer of 50. "I just feel that is an insult to the player," he said. "We are sorry to lose Chris, but he basically only started seven games for us last season and has been ravaged by injuries for two years."
Thame joint manager Andy Sinnott countered: "We initially made an inquiry and they wanted 1,000, which we thought was over the top because he only played seven first-team games.
"We have a figure of 250 in mind and we are quite prepared to pay that or a similar amount. If it can be resolved amicably then we are happy to do so.
"We will abide by whatever an FA tribunal say. All we want is for Chris to come and enjoy his football." And Sinnott pointed out that the sum of compensation was not for the player.
"The fee is not for the player because he comes free," he said. "It doesn't matter whether it is 50 or 5,000 - it is for just a piece of paper."
