Oxfordshire's top music man has become chairman of a national organisation.
Richard Hallam, director of music for the county council, has been elected chairman of the National Association of Music Educators.
He has had a successful career as a freelance musician, playing with BBC Orchestra da Camera and touring with pop star Gene Pitney.
He has taught in primary and secondary schools as a classroom teacher and has given private lessons. Mr Hallam said his new role would involve liaising with all sections of Name to ensure the right people make good decisions.
He added: "It is a great privilege to be asked to take on this position.
It is an important time for music education and Name has within its membership the expertise and experience to help shape the future.
