Oxfordshire made it four Minor Counties Championship wins in a row with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Wiltshire at Marlborough yesterday.

The result keeps them 30 points ahead of the chasing pack at the top of the Western Division with four games left to play.

Second-placed Herefordshire, who have five matches remaining, travel to Thame for what looks increasingly like being a title showdown on August 6 and 7. Before that Oxon take on Devon at Christ Church College this coming Sunday and Monday, and then make the trip to Bournemouth to play Dorset a week later.

Oxfordshire conclude their campaign away to Berkshire at Reading on August 20 and 21.

The last time Oxon lifted the Western Division crown was 1991, when they went on to lose to Eastern Division winners Staffordshire in the Championship play-off.

They had gone one better two years earlier, beating Hertfordshire to become champions. Ian Curtis, who played in that 1989 title-winning side, was the key to yesterday's victory.

The left-arm spinner claimed 5-66 in a marathon spell as the home team were bowled out for 227 in 97.3 overs.
