Pressgang, the Oxford-based theatre company which specialises in staging new plays, make their debut at the Burton Taylor theatre tonight with Peaches, by Nick Grosso.
And it could be the comic treat of the summer.
The play takes us into the world of 22-year-old Frank who knows all about 'peaches' (his pet word for women he fancies). But for some reason he always gets tongue-tied when he's having a one-to-one with a girl.
Should he act cool, or should be be up front? What does she want? If Frank knew the answers to these questions things would be much easier. But he doesn't, even though he boasts otherwise, as he swaggers with his mates from club to pub to peach-spotting on the city city streets.
Then comes the disastrous weekend at Cherry's place . . .
Founder and director of Pressgang, Graham Topping, says the play which proved to be one of the Royal Court's greatest hits in the1990s says peaches will provide the perfect antidote to all those open-air Shakespeare productions which dominate Oxford's theatre scene during the summer months.
Peaches runs for just 80 minutes without an interval and is staged by a young and highly energetic cast of experienced actors.
Tickets can be booked by ringing the box office at the Oxford Playhouse on 01865 798600.
Until July 22
