A man accused of raping a 21-year-old woman claimed she fondled him before consenting to sex, a court heard.

Delroy Johns, 26, of Sandy Lane, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, told Oxford Crown Court yesterday (Wed) the alleged victim touched him intimately in The Cellar club, off Cornmarket Street, Oxford.

Johns denies one charge of rape and a joint charge of false imprisonment with Donny Sam, 27, of St Barnabas Street, Jericho, Oxford. Sam is also charged with rape.

It was alleged they set upon the woman after leaving The Cellar club on February 20 and dragged her into Clarendon House where they took it in turns to rape her.

Johns said: "I don't rape people. It was spontaneous. I was intimate with her and she was intimate with me. She was cupping her hands round the back of my neck and she was caressing me."

He said his alleged victim was on a treadmill of lies she could not get off. He said: "She was not raped and she knows it. Once she got on that treadmill, from her friend dragging her to the police, she could not get off."

The case continues.
