No-one embodies the transformation of the British jazz scene quite like Courtney Pine we've got to add an OBE to his name since the New Year's Honours list, writes Tim Metcalfe.

The saxophonist heads a new generation of innovative musicians who, over the last ten years or so, have turned the scene on its head.

Pine is probably best known for merging jazz with rap, hip hop and soul styles and he continues to push back the boundaries on his new album, Back in the Day released on the Blue Thumb label last month. The album features surprise guest vocals from Lynden David Hall and Kele Le Roc, among others.

You can see the legend at work at The Zodiac on Saturday a rare treat indeed.
