Jon Blencowe is to continue as Abingdon Town's caretaker manager on a month's trial, writes Russell Smith.

The 29-year-old midfielder agreed to the move after Andy Lyne turned down the chance to take over the hot-seat at Culham Road.

Blencowe is keen to keep playing and is not yet convinced he wants the manager's job full-time. He said: "That is the way I want to do it at the moment and they seem quite happy with that."

Town won their first two games after taking charge, but saw his charges come down to earth with a bump when they lost 5-0 at home to an impressive Arlesey Town on Saturday.

However, Blencowe has not been deterred, and he'll be looking to Abingdon to bounce back when they take on second division strugglers Hungerford Town in the Ryman League's Associate Members Trophy first round at Culham Road tonight (7.45). Ben Border is unavailable, but Darren Watts returns.

Joint manager Andy Sinnott believes Thame United face their toughest week yet as they bid to stretch their amazing run in Ryman League Division 1 to 11 wins at Ford United tonight (7.45).

Sinnott, who names an unchanged squad, said: "We have a tough one tonight and Boreham Wood on Saturday.

Thame have launched a competition to find a nickname. Suggestions should be sent to the club at Windmill Stadium.

Manager Stuart Peace is back in charge of Wantage Town just a week after quitting the Hellenic League club.

Peace stormed out of the Premier Division strugglers ten days ago after a crushing 7-1 defeat to Yate.

But officials and the players are understood to have pleaded with him to change his mind and he was at the helm again for Saturday's 3-0 win over Englefield Green
