Claire Bywaters was the star for Oxfordshire as they defeated Inter-Counties League leaders Leicestershire at Wigston.

It was the second success on the trot for Oxon, helped in no small measure by Bywaters's magnificent average of 28.51.

This is the highest ladies average recorded so far this season and leaves her knocking on the door of England selection.

First on the oche at the weekend were the ladies' B side, who drew 3-3 thanks to wins from lady-of-the-match Emma King, Irene Wooding and Chris Young.

The men's B triumphed 7-5 to make sure Oxon went into the Sunday with the lead. Man of the match was Dick Foster with an average of 25.91 average, while Kevin Middleton, Anthony Hamstead, Dave Witherwick, Graham Manning, John Fowler and Mick Curran were also victorious.

The ladies A team carried on the good work with a 4-2 victory, but things took a turn for the worse when Oxon lost their first four men's A matches.

Pete Hall stopped the rot and wins followed from Roger Haines, Jim Allen, Kit Young and Nigel Russell, the latter winning his first man-of-the-match award.

Oxon eventually went down 7-5 but it was enough to secure an overall 19-17 triumph.
