Witney's second successive draw in the Dr Martens Eastern Division on Saturday will probably see them safe from relegation - at least on the field.

Jason Caffel takes on two Sittingbourne defenders

The club's continuing financial problems off the pitch were highlighted by a sit-down protest prior to the kick-off, when more than 60 supporters gathered outside the ground to draw attention to the club's plight.

It meant many of the home fans missed their side's goal in the fifth minute. Their first serious attack resulted in a corner, from which Mike Cook rose highest to score with a powerful header.

The travelling contingent from Sittingbourne clapped and cheered the Witney fans into the stadium when their protest ended, and their supportive behaviour was rewarded when Bradley Spice was first to a long throw and equalised from close range.

Keith Knight's corners were causing problems for the visiting defence and from one of them, Steve Tavinor had a header cleared off the line in the 40th minute.

Sittingbourne came out sharper in the second half and had a goal disallowed within three minutes for offside.

Witney came back into the game and their neat approach play deserved some reward.

A double substitution on 70 minutes saw Harry Burnley move to the right for Witney and he proceeded to cause a number of problems for the Sittingbourne defence.

Town created several half-chances while Spice and Tyrone King went close for the visitors, but neither side could find the winner.
