Oxford Devils team are through to the National League play-off final at Wembley on May 5.

Despite fielding a depleted side, they overcame Cardiff Clippers 94-87 in the semi-final second leg on Saturday to go through overall winners 177-151.

The Devils, who went into the match at Oxford Brookes with a 19-point advantage from the first leg, have run into a spate of injuries over the last few weeks and could field only six first-team players.

But an amazing first-half performance, with Steve Riley and Gerry Armstrong totally dominating the offensive boards, saw them build up a 53-34 lead at the break.

The second half belonged to Cardiff as they put on a great shooting display while the Devils began to tire.

It took 16 second-half points from OJ Choutka and good support by Joe Milnes and Keith Kelly to keep the Clippers at bay.

"We knew the Clippers would play for 40 minutes and not lie down, but our main aim was to win the game, regardless of our 19-point cushion," said Devils coach Bill Baker.

"We managed to achieve that, and now we are looking forward to two weeks' time at Wembley."

Devils will face Reading in the final after they beat Kingston in their second-leg tie.

Oxford's leading scorers: OJ Choutka 21, J Milnes 19, S Riley 16.
