Abingdon Town banished any slight fears of relegation, when they gained three points from last night's Ryman Division 3 encounter with Bracknell, the first of five successive league games at Culham Road.

Veteran skipper Roger Charles continued his recent run of goalscoring form when opening Abingdon's account soon after the interval, coolly firing home from substitute Douglas's through ball.

It was Jon Gardner who increased Abingdon's lead in the 63rd minute, firing home a dubiously awarded penalty after he himself had been bundled over in the area.

Any doubts about that penalty were more then compensated for, when Gardner once again broke clear of the visitors' defence, only seemingly to be brought down from behind just inside the box. But, on this occasion, the referee denied what looked to be a more legitimate penalty claim.

Town were well in control and they increased the lead in the 74th minute, Luke Beauchamp diving full length to head home Anthony Burden's far-post cross.

Substitute Fearon pulled a goal back for Bracknell in the 79th minute.

Abingdon: Beames, Thomas, Burden (Tompkins), Price, Gill, Beauchamp (Brown), Morgan, Charles, Oram (Douglas), Gardner, Border.
