It would probably make the great man turn in his grave, but cub scouts in Oxford have released a rap record about their founder's life and times.

The 'hip hop' track about Lord Baden-Powell is the brainchild of the 22nd Oxford pack who hope their artistic efforts will raise funds to buy new equipment.

Cub scout Chris Saunders struts his stuffThe pack also plan to choreograph a dance routine, and are looking for the chance to promote it on BBC1's Blue Peter programme.

The 'Cub Rap' project was the brainchild of Peter Standing, a pack helper and local musician, who helped produced it in his studio at home.

The cubs needed to put on a performance to obtain their 'entertainer' badges, and they jumped at his idea of making a rap record.

Mr Standing said: "Some friends of mine are serious musicians and they think it's pretty good stuff."

The song includes lines such as: "He was called a hero over Mafeking, A victory won through his quick thinking, That's right!"

Joe Berrie, nine, said: "It was great fun singing it. I felt like a cool rap star and I'd definitely like to do it again."

The CD, which has already been aired on local radio, costs £3 and can be bought from Mr Standing on 01865 240993.
