Star Royal virtually clinched the Morrells Oxford Sunday League Premier Division championship when they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with their main challengers Highfield.

Wayne Blossom opened for Highfield, only for Karl Brown to level, but Luke Brandon missed a golden opportunity to put Star in front when he pulled his spot-kick wide.

Early in the second half, Sam Donaldson restored Highfield's lead, but shortly afterwards they were reduced to ten men as Ian Edge received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

Star took advantage as Highfield re-adjusted and Mickey Tighe levelled.

Both sides had chances to take all the points but had to settle for a share, which makes Star almost safe for the title with Highfield a safe bet for runners-up spot.

The teams had clashed in midweek in the League Cup quarter-final, when Highfield had stand-in keeper Edge to thank for their victory

After the game ended all square at 0-0, Edge heroically saved two spot-kicks in the penalty shoot-out to see them through 4-2.

Back in the Premier Division, Star Wanderers defeated unlucky Wheatley 84 3-2, with a goal in the last five minutes.

Mark Revill opened for Star after eight minutes and they increased their lead when the Wheatley keeper miskicked and Stuart Fathers accepted the gift.

Wheatley raised their game in the second half and levelled through a Paul Wright brace, but just as they thought they had secured a point, Star's Tom Jerred knocked in a rebound for the winner.

In Division 2, Oxford YMCA's revival continued with a surprising 4-2 over promotion-chasers Charlbury.

Man-of-the-match David Jennings scored two superb goals in his hat-trick for YMCA, their other score coming via an own goal.

Star Wanderers Res also sprung a surprise on another high-riding team with a 1-0 success over Cowley Cosmos.

On a rare breakaway, Star found the net when a Peter Higgins shot was deflected straight to Russell Whitlock, who fired home.

Riverside paid for having a player sent off for handball and went down 6-2 to North Oxford CC. Gary Chapman converted the penalty and added his second, while North's other goals came from Andy Wheeler (2), Paul Bough and Andy Paine.

In Division 4, a below-par Magdalen Arms were still too strong for Arncott and won 6-0. Rory Barrett grabbed four, two of which were superb strikes, and Lee Sharkey a brace.

Roebuck moved up to second spot by defeating visitors Donnington Wanderers 4-0. Roebuck were 2-0 up at the break thanks to Gary Rudman and a 25-yarder from Carl Barber, while a second-half brace from Darren Barber settled matters.

North Oxford CC Res had to come back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at home to Prince of Wales in Division 5.

In a tense game that saw a player from each side sent off, Nolan Asleford (2), Henry Manuel and Darren Wright netted for North, with Kevin Bennett (2) and Mark Cooper replying.
