Burford United came from behind to draw 2-2 and eventually win 4-3 on penalties against Long Wittenham in the Autotype UTV League Ridgeway Cup final at Abingdon United's Northcourt Road ground.

This is the first piece of silverware Burford have won since joining the UTV League 20 years ago.

Mick Ody opened the scoring for Burford with a speculative lob from the left in the 20th minute.

Wittenham captain, Steve Slater, put his team level just before the break with a free kick that spun out of keeper Paul Bradley's hands into the corner of the net.

And in the 50th minute they took the lead from another free kick, this time from Nigel Cook.

During the last quarter-hour, Burford staged a comeback , and, in the 82nd minute, man-of-the-match Darren Lewis equalised with a superbly struck free-kick from 40 yards.

In the penalty shoot-out, Andy Burton and Cox-Rogers missed for Wittenham, but Del Hewson stepped up to score the winner for a jubilant Burford squad.

In the league, East Hendred consolidated their top-four position in Division 1 with a 2-1 win at Brewery Tap thanks to strikes from Chris Slevin and Jason Fisher. Paul Matthews replied for Tap.

At the top of Division 2, King Alfred's Head's 1-1 draw at home to JP's was enough to edge them a point above leaders Burford. With at least two games in hand over each of their rivals, they will be difficult to dislodge.

Eddy Barnett put JPs ahead after 60 minutes, but in the last quarter, Frankie Dorrian grabbed the equaliser and also hit a post.

Standlake Garage came from 3-0 behind to win 4-3 in a vital relegation clash with Rutherford Lab.

Looking as though they would cruise to victory, Lab took the lead with strikes from Martin Woodley (2) and Lee Hammonds. But Mark Saxel struck twice to put Garage back into the game.

Then in the 80th minute, Saxel provided the pass for Geoff Herbert to level at 3-3. Five minutes from time, Carl Lyon grabbed the winner with an acrobatic overhead kick.

Ewelme beat bottom club Crispin 5-1 with strikes from Roger Barnes, Andy Jones, Ian Abbott, Lloyd McLaren and an own goal by Mick Monaghan. Steve O'Neill replied.

Exiles 2000 slipped up at JET, drawing 1-1 with a strike from Simon Fitzgerald. Simon Thresh scored for JET.

Division 3A leaders Forest Hill stretched their lead to ten points with a 3-1 win against nearest rivals Crown, thanks to goals from Andy Trevelyan (2) and Andy Rowland.

In Division 3B, George & Dragon confirmed themselves champions with a 2-0 win over their main rivals AFC Crowmarsh. Goals either side of the break from Andy Smith and Des Healy sealed the medals.

A first-half hat-trick from Ali Christmas helped second-placed Benson Harts to a 6-0 win against UKAEA Harwell. Andy Brown's header made it 4-0 at the interval, to be followed by strikes from Daz Hamilton and John Kennedy.
