A teenager was flung to his death when a car he was travelling in veered out of control and crashed into a tree.

Kosovan student Leonard Murati, 16, of Horspath Road, Cowley, Oxford, had gone along for the ride when two friends headed for a scrapyard in Berinsfield on the A4074 for car parts.

At an inquest into his death, held at Oxfordshire Coroner's Court yesterday, it was revealed that Mr Murati was not wearing his seatbelt and refused to listen to warnings not to play with the car door.

Coroner Nicholas Gardiner heard Mr Murati had joined his friends Bajram Kanani, of West Street, Oxford, and Spartak Dervish, of Horspath Road, Oxford, on the trip on November 14 last year.

Mr Dervish lost control of the car, which then weaved across the carriageway, mounted the kerb, then careered along a grass verge before hitting a tree.

Mr Murati was flung onto the road when the car hit the tree.

Witness Susan Davies said: "There was a loud bang, then the body just flew out of the car."

Mr Murati was declared dead at the scene.

Consultant pathologist Dr Brian Warren, said the death was caused by multiple injuries.

Mr Gardiner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
