Test results have not revealed any evidence that residents living in an Oxford tower block were exposed to potentially fatal asbestos.
City council leaders said 26 separate tests were carried out at Foresters Tower, Wood Farm Road, Headington.
The council wrote to the block's 110 residents last week to tell them asbestos may have been disturbed during recent re-wiring work.
But there was criticism that people living in the 84 flats were not told of the potential problem until almost a week after staff were sent in to carry out initial tests.
Cllr David Connett, chairman of the council's housing committee, said he was pleased with the results.
He said: "I want to make sure that any heater doors containing asbestos are removed from the block."
The council is now carrying out checks at four other tower blocks to see if asbestos is present in similar heater cupboards. They are Windrush Tower and Evenlode in Blackbird Leys, Plowman at North Way and Hockmore in Cowley.
