A guinea pig was saved by the kiss of life after it was brought into an animal welfare centre suffering from heat exhaustion.

Lynn Rogers, manager of the Blue Cross animal adoption centre in Burford, near Witney, spent three hours trying to save the life of the male guinea pig, which was also given heart massage.

The small pet was brought in with two other male guinea pigs for rehoming last Sunday from Swindon. All three were overcome with heat exhaustion - despite being carried in boxes with ventilation holes - and two of the animals died.

Ms Rogers, pictured with Harrison, the guinea pig she saved, said: "I worked on three of them for about three hours giving them the kiss of life and heart massage.

"Sadly, two died but I managed to save the other one."
