Running back Brian Myers extended his 2001 touchdown tally to eight in just three games with a hat-trick in Domino's Oxford Saints' 27-8 victory away to Southend Sabres on Saturday.

Oxford are unbeaten in the British Senior League Division and all three wins have hinged on the powerful running style of Myers, who ran for 103 yards on 19 carries against the Sabres.

Myers opened the scoring in the first quarter on a two-yard touchdown run and added another on the second quarter on a one-yard run. Kicker Steve Belcher converted both scores as the Saints led 14-0 at halftime.

Southend struck back in the third quarter when Gregory Crease scored on a two-yard run. Quarterback Simon Jones ran in the two-point conversion to make the scoreline 14-8 and give the Essex team some hope.

However, Oxford dominated the fourth quarter with full back Jimmy Norton scoring on a two-yard run and Myers completing his second hat-trick of the season with an 18-yard sprint.

Belcher tacked on an extra point, but was stopped short of the goalline as he attempted a two-point conversion following Myers's final touchdown.

Belcher led Oxford's receivers, making six catches for 111 yards and was a thorn in the Sabres side throughout the game.

"The most encouraging thing is that we are starting to blend in new players and they are making a big contribution," said Saints head coach Chris Janes.
