The organisers of a race are appealing for suitable prams capable of carrying an adult around the pubs of Bampton.

For the past 49 years, the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Junketing has staged a race around the pubs to raise money for local charities.

It forms part of the May Bank Holiday weekend celebrations in the village and takes place on Saturday with the first race starting at 7pm from the Buckland Road entrance to the town.

There will be three races for adult and junior contestants.

One of the organisers of the event, Don Rouse, said: "Due to changes in design of prams we are short of suitable ones and are appealing to people to donate ones they do longer need."

The race takes in all the pubs in the town and even three that have closed.

Mr Rouse said: "The owners of what used to be the Jubilee, George and Dragon and the Eagle pubs all put out tables for us."

There will also be Morris dancing.

Anyone who can supply a pram should bring it along on the evening of the race or call Mr Rouse on 01993 850297.
