Roadworks to repair a collapsed sewer in Oxford city centre street will enter the final stage this week after two months of disruption for businesses and shoppers.
Engineers will begin strengthening and resurfacing the road surface between Cornmarket and Gloucester Green Bus Station in George Street, Oxford today and expect to have the completed the work by July 8.
The work repairing the damaged sewer began at the end of April and engineers are taking advantage of the diversion route for buses to repair the surface of the road.
George Street will remain completely closed to traffic but open to pedestrians throughout the work.
Oxfordshire County Council is planning to coordinate operations with Oxford City Council, Thames Water, bus contractors and the building contractor Isis Accord in a bid to minimise any disruption to people using the road.
