Budding lawyers from Frideswide Middle School, Oxford, have won a place at the national final of the Mock Trial Competition.
The team of 12- and 13-year-olds won the south-east regional final in London on June 9 and now goes forward to the UK final at Nottingham on July 7.
In the competition, organised by the Citizenship Foundation and the Magistratess Association, each team has to defend and prosecute cases based on witness statements.
Students learn to think on their feet, use the correct legal terms and behave as if they were in a real courtroom. The judging is done by real magistrates.
English tutor Sue Wyatt said: "They have worked hard, prepared thoroughly and deserve their success. We are all hoping to win the finals now."
