World champion Mark Loram pulled off a superb victory over Polish ace Tomasz Gollob as Team Great Britain finished runners-up in ther first round of the inaugural World Team Cup in Gdansk, Poland, on Sunday, July 1.

Gollob, the current leader in the Grand Prix, led the England ace, but Loram cut inside to inflict the first defeat of the meeting on Poland's No 1.

Heavy rain in the region meant the start was delayed for 4.5 hours, and as expected, Poland ran out easy winners, leaving Britain to fight in the race-off for a possible final slot on Thursday.

There was no holding the host nation as they dropped only ten points throughout the meeting, and only GB tested their strength.

Result: 1 Poland 62 pts, 2 Great Britain 49, 3 Finland 22, 4 Germany 15.
