Mark Wright was today set to make his third signing of the summer by bringing in a player nicknamed 'Psycho' to toughen up his Oxford United midfield.
Described as "an abrasive and feisty midfielder", Martin Thomas was a fans' favourite at his main (last) club Swansea City, but was allowed to go before the end of last season and joined third division promotion-chasers Brighton on transfer deadline day.
He started just once for the Seagulls, against Halifax, but once they had won promotion, Brighton decided not to keep him and he became available on a Bosman free transfer.
Wright has snapped him up and he was set to join the Southport duo Scott Guyett and Phil Bolland as new signings when United's players reported back for pre-season training today.
"He's a tough-tackling, no-nonsense midfield player and he's what I want," Wright confirmed.
