A concorde fan's mission to charter the supersonic passenger aircraft has been given the cold shoulder by British Airways.

But self-confessed 'Concorde nut' Flora McKenzie is not giving up, and says she is determined to revive pleasure flights on the superjet.

Mrs McKenzie, of Windrush Valley Road, Witney, was among hundreds of fans who recently turned out to watch Concorde land at RAF Brize Norton after its first test flight since the Paris air disaster last August.

In the 1970s and 80s she set up a Concorde Supporters Club and championed cheap charter flights over the Bay of Biscay, and day trips to Cairo.

She has since written to British Airways in an effort to revive the club, saying there would be no problem filling seats.

But British Airways head of leisure, Robin Hayes, has brought her dream down to earth.

"We are thrilled that Concorde has passed all the modification tests and hope that she will be back in the air soon," he said.

"I am sorry to advise that we are not planning to charter Concorde for a couple of years. It wasn't an easy decision to make."

The aircraft has been fitted with new fuel tank linings and tougher tyres to prevent a repeat of last year's tragedy when all 109 passengers and crew were killed on take-off in Paris.

Mrs McKenzie says she is not giving up her efforts to charter the plane.

She said: "It seems that they can't see that a promotional charter flight for the man in the street at sensible prices would be good for Concorde's introduction back into service."
