Summer camp has proved a hive of activity for more than 250 budding soldiers.

Army cadets from across Oxfordshire and 50 adult instructors have been hard at work at Read House Army Cadet Force Training Centre, near Bicester.

An action-packed summer camp has helped cadets pick up a few survival skills, with activities ranging from military manoeuvres to first aid, canoeing, clay pigeon shooting, cycling, abseiling and rock climbing.

The camp aims to give the youths, aged 13 to 18, the chance to take part in activities that they may not otherwise be able to enjoy.

Colonel Bob Hordle, Oxfordshire Army Cadet Force Commandant said: "This year's camp has been one of the best. We were on tenterhooks right up to the last minute due to the foot and mouth epidemic.

"The cadets have had a wonderful time and when they all go back to college or school after the holidays have finished they will have plenty of 'war stories' to tell."
