Caroline Lucas, Green MEP for the South East, is to sit on the European Parliament's new committee of inquiry into the foot and mouth disease outbreak in Britain last year.
Dr Lucas, from Oxford, said she was worried about the lack of openness in the UK. She said: "Our Government has refused an independent public inquiry, but it is in all of our interests to know what went on and ensure that the same mistakes are never made again."
