Oxford Hawks slipped to a 1-0 home defeat against relegation rivals Bromley in Division 2.
Hawks started Sunday's clash the stronger, making good inroads into the Bromley defence.
But they were left to rue the absence of striker Nick Perks as they were unable to convert chances.
Bromley's winner came after 52 minutes from a short corner by John Warren.
The result was a big disappointment for Hawks, who had won four of their previous seven games to move clear of the foot of the table.
Victory would have put them seven points ahead of second bottom club Bromley, who are now breathing down their necks.
Other scores: Hawks 2nd 2, Chichester 2nd 2; Chichester 3rd 2, Hawks 3rd 4; Rover Oxford 3rd 2 Hawks 3A 1.
