A young woman has been robbed by a man who threatened her with a liquid-filled syringe at Oxford railway station.

The incident happened as the Oxford University student was waiting for a train at 4.50am on Saturday.

The man approached her on the platform, told her to empty her bag and then stole her mobile phone before heading off towards the city centre.

The robber is described as white, 5ft 10in tall with blond hair. He was wearing a purple scarf, baseball cap and blue jacket and spoke with a Liverpool accent.

The victim was uninjured, but left extremely shaken after the robbery.

British Transport Police is investigating the incident and examining CCTV footage.
