Morrells Oxford Sunday League

Oxford YMCA turned the formbook on its head as the Division 2 side beat Premier Division Blackbird Leys Sunday 2-1 to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Wayne McLennon gave Blackbird a first-half lead, but YMCA came back well after the break with Steve Riordian equalising with a 20-yarder before David Jennings nipped in for the late winner.

YMCA's shock victory was built on a fine display from centre backs Neil Crozier and Jamie Power, and keeper Nigel Norris.

Chequers put up a brave display against high-flying Premier Division Star Royal before the Division 5 side lost out 7-4.

The visitors should have taken a first minute lead, but they failed to convert a Keiran Ellis cross.

Luke Brandon gave Star the lead from the penalty spot, before former Oxford City and Banbury United striker Steve Jenkins made it 2-0.

However, in a cracking game, Chequers levelled through Simms and Shephard.

Brandon snatched a second and Adam Hamp netted a double as they made it 5-2.

However, Chequers refused to lie down with Simms completing a hat trick as they dragged the game back to only trail 5-4.

Not to be outdone Brandon completed his hat trick before Neil Drewett sealed the victory.

In Division 1, AFC Vikings only had themselves to blame as they went down 5-3 at home to Chase Finance, thus bringing to an end their three match winning run.

Poor finishing and bad defending combined to undermine Vikings' efforts, and they were 2-0 down by the break.

Vikings rallied briefly, and Andrew Wilson pulled one back, but Chase replied virtually from the restart before Alan Exell notched a second for Vikings.

Although Vikings had plenty of chances to level, an own goal three minutes from time was all they could show for their efforts.

Northway thrashed a depleted Riverside 6-0 in Division 2, with a brace apiece from Karl Gray and Andy Hooper.

Danny Goodchild and Jason Drackett also got on the scoresheet.

Already playing with nine men, Riverside were reduced to eight, when one of their players went off injured.

Northway had originally started with nine players before two more arrived later on.

In Division 3, Woodchip Wanderers continue to impress with a 6-2 victory at Chase Finance Res.

Mike Greenhall and Adam White gave Woodchip a two-goal lead, but Chase battled back to level with goals either side of the break.

Despite being in control for most of the game, Woodchip faced a few moments of severe pressure, from their opponents, though that was relieved when Greenhall and White scored their second goals of the contest.

Greenhall then completed his hat-trick, before Simon Rawlins brought the goal deluge to an end with a 60-yard free kick that bounced through a crowd of players and skidded into the net.

In Division 4, Marston Village were again in the goals eventually running out 8-4 winners at The Angel, Witney Res.

Paul Flack was in tremendous form, notching a double hat-trick to make it nine goals in two games, and with Simon Cullen and Tom Chase also netting, Marston were always in control.
